What's Your Dream House?

 

Our homes, cars, clothes, and other properties reflect our success in life. The bigger our house, the more expensive our cars, and more fashionable and expensive the clothes we wear are signs that we are doing well in life. Perhaps we have equated success to the amount of money we have in the bank or to the number of real estate properties we have to our name. However, my best friend defined success differently. Success according to her is freedom from being enslaved by our wants of possessing all the material things in the world which oftentimes make us forget where we came from.  These riches are only temporary and therefore we cannot carry them to our grave. Her words may sound too profound and too deep to comprehend at times. But I suppose that is because she really struggled to get to where she is right now. Her rags-to-riches story is famous in their town and she did it all because of hard work and determination.

 

Her house may not look as grand as everyone thought but her dream house is neither a mansion nor a castle. It is a bungalow type house with three bedrooms, three bathrooms, one kitchen, a car port, a beautifully trimmed lawn and an awesome vegetable garden near her kitchen. Her house is surrounded with trees because of its natural cooling effect. But what I love about her house is that it has wide windows for proper ventilation and natural sunlight. Each windows is adorned with cedar wood window boxes full of her favorite flowers paired with cedar wood board and batten shutters. The wood board and batten shutters are built from high quality cedar by our hardworking woodcutters. These exterior shutters gives a homey and sophisticated effect to her beautiful house. These exterior window shutters are not merely for decorative purposes. They were installed for security reasons.  These wood board and batten shutters also offer privacy and protection from the ever changing weather.

To some, her house is nothing but ordinary. But for her, her house meant she have won a lot of battles in her life and she is on her winning streak. In spite of her wealthy status, she remains simple and humble.
