Starting The Year Right

New Year means a brand new start for most of us. It also means hope as 2013 has not been a good year for most of our brothers. Well, we all wish a clean slate every time the year ends. We always wish that the New Year will be kinder to us. We also wish it to be bountiful. These are the reasons why before the year ends we make sure that our tables are filled with different types of food. We also make sure that our houses are scrubbed clean. Moreover, some would even remove the old decorations from their house and replace it with brand new ones no matter how expensive they are. You can say that it is kind of extravagant and expensive but then again, as the saying goes, “to each his own”. This is the kind of tradition which is practiced at my grandparents’ home.

Seven days before the year ends we would clean every corner of the house. My aunt sees to it that every part of the house is dusted, washed and organized. Then she would decorate the house with the brand new decorations which are either purchased or are given as gifts. Those old decorations which were of sentimental value are kept in the storage and those which were not are given away. Then we would repaint the entire house ourselves so it would look neat when the year ends.
