I often find a house with a lot of windows very appealing. It promises a comfortable place for those who live in it. That's because it provides good ventilation and natural lighting. If I have enough money, I would have this kind of house. I promised myself that if I have to buy a house it would similar to our ancestral house. It is a good thing that I don’t need to.
The architectural design of our ancestral house is Spanish inspired. Most of my friends find the old house creepy. Perhaps that’s because the house is 20 years older than my dad. What I like about that house aside from its numerous windows and homey atmosphere is that it designed with a lovely exterior window shutters which was custom made so it would fit the windows. The exterior window shutters are partnered with window boxes to complete its curb appeal. These additional accessories make the house stand out compared to other houses in the neighborhood. Moreover, these cedar board and batten shutters were just recently added to give the house a warm and charming appeal. It also made the house look less haunted.
Haunted or not, I love the house. I have a lot of fond memories in that house as I spent most of my teens living there with my grandparents and grand aunt. It is probably the reason why regardless of its antiquity I never felt intimidated and afraid. Besides, the house has a new look now as it has been restored five years ago when my uncle who is the oldest in the family proposed to sell the house. But after receiving several protests, it has been agreed to keep it as our vacation home. In addition everything inside is fully equipped with modern technology. But regardless of these modern technologies, I still can’t get my friends to visit my great grandparents’ place for a short vacation as they believe that place is haunted by my dead ancestors. Kids!
